Mpilonhle Project

Mpilonhle Project

Through its many programs, Mpilonhle has held true to its vision: "Empowering communities to live positively through improved physical, social, mental, spiritual and emotional well being”. Visit Mpilonhle Project's website.

Program Highlights

Central to its mission, Mpilonhle's Orphaned and Vulnerable Children's Programme operates ten Kids Care Centres. Over five hundred children receive meals, care, education and activities at the centres. Mpilonhle's Community Health Workers Programme trains community members to educate their communities about HIV/Aids, STIs, TB nutrition and health related issues. Other Mpilonhle programs include Home-Based Care, Support Groups, a Mentoring Programme, Community Mobilisation, Craft Groups, a Food Security gardening and nutrition program and a Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission Programme.

History

Since 2002 the Mpilonhle Project has addressed the HIV/Aids pandemic though a multi-faceted developmental approach. The project is located in the Uthukela District of KwaZulu Natal, a predominately rural area where the HIV prevalence rates are estimated at well above the national average at 35.1%.
